MapObjects can be used with a variety of industry-standard programming environments such as Visual Basic, PowerBuilder, Visual C++, and others. MapObjects plugs directly into these familiar environments, allowing you to build applications quickly.
MapObjects can be used with any development environment that supports custom controls. It requires a 32-bit Intel-based Windows operating system such as Windows 95/98/Me/NT 4.0/2000. Applications created with MapObjects will have, at a minimum, the same system requirements.
MapObjects uses ESRI shapefiles; ArcInfo coverages; ArcSDE (Spatial Database Engine) layers; and a wide variety of standard image formats like .tif, .bmp, and many others. Other databases and tables can be accessed using Microsoft's ODBC standard interface.
MapObjects includes ESRI Data & Maps, a large and comprehensive collection of data that allows you to immediately start adding maps to your applications.
