With PLTS for ArcGIS—Foundation you can have a consistent, repeatable, and well-managed map production workflow. This extension to ArcGIS Desktop includes tools for quality control, database editing, cartographic product generation, and workflow management.
Foundation takes into account the unique requirements of your project to ensure rapid database compilation while maintaining a high degree of data and map quality. In addition, Foundation improves the data updating process for your production technician by implementing smart editing and attribution tools.

The data load automation tools assist in batch loading data into a geodatabase. This is especially useful for data that is collected to a standard. The data load automation tool uses a database as a cross-reference to search for source data and load it into a personal or enterprise geodatabase.
The Foundation editing interface is designed to maximize usability and utility for a data production environment. The editing tasks consist of a variety of tools to maximize productivity and data quality in a production environment. Features are validated as they are extracted to ensure data integrity.
Foundation utilizes a knowledge base that is composed of several tables to control valid feature attribution and symbology. Through the tables, the PLTS for ArcGIS applications access database information as necessary. This allows the application to be more generic while the tables combined with the data itself control the output. Detected errors can be logged to a database table or immediately corrected.
Map Production System—Atlas (MPS-Atlas) is designed to facilitate cartographic production. MPS-Atlas operates in two modes: one allows you to design and save a new map series, while the other uses the defined map series to build a cartographic product. Several products are predefined within MPS-Atlas. A map series is defined by the surround elements necessary for the map series as well as the layout. Once defined and incorporated into the system, surround elements are generated and can be modified to suit the needs of the specific map in the series. There are also cartographic tools designed to assist in map production.
Foundation has been designed to be adjustable and extensible to create a flexible environment. Many of the editing, validation, and rendering tools within the Foundation system take advantage of modifiable rules stored in the knowledge base. By storing the rules in the knowledge base, you can easily develop new products and modify existing products to meet your database requirements.
