ESRI Earns Ready for IBM SOA Specialty Distinction
ESRI recently earned the IBM Business Partner SOA Specialty distinction for its ArcGIS software and Web services, which easily connect and add geospatial capabilities, features, and functions to the IBM SOA Foundation product suite. This distinction is awarded to IBM business partners who have successfully completed IBM's rigorous technical evaluation for delivering solutions running on IBM's service-oriented architecture (SOA)-enabled middleware and have demonstrated deep business alignment with IBM's SOA strategic direction. ESRI SOA-enabled solutions for selected industries can be found in the IBM SOA Business Catalog, a single, comprehensive online directory of reusable SOA content from IBM and invited IBM SOA Specialty business partners.

IBM Maximo Spatial Delivers Unified View of Corporate Assets
ESRI recently announced that ArcGIS Server 9.2 has been integrated with IBM Maximo Spatial Asset Management, a new solution that brings geospatial query and visualization capability to the capture, analysis, and reporting of assets, locations, and work orders. Viewing the components of business in a geospatial context greatly aids in the dispatch of appropriate resources for service appointments and corrective/emergency maintenance work. Geospatially Enabling Enterprise Asset Management Webcast with ESRI and IBM Maximo
On December 18, ESRI and IBM Maximo hosted a live Webcast sponsored by Federal Computer Week and Government Computer News. The webcast featured presentations by Julio Olimpio, ESRI's IBM Strategic Alliance manager, and Ron Wallace, IBM Maximo, on how Maximo Spatial with ArcGIS allows you to reduce costs, improve service, optimize executive dashboards, and manage assets more effectively. Los Angeles: Accessing GIS Data for Critical Decisions Quickly and Cost-Efficiently [PDF]
New ESRI/IBM Case Study
The City of Los Angeles was plagued with limitations in managing GIS data stored on its legacy database and turned to ESRI and IBM for a solution. The city replaced its legacy database with a solution composed of ESRI ArcGIS software, IBM DB2 9, DB2 9 Spatial Extender, DB2 ConnectTM Enterprise Edition, DB2 Performance Expert for Multiplatforms 9, and IBM WebSphere Information Integrator. This new solution saved the city more than $150,000 in annual software licensing fees and allowed it access to more data, which enables it to make critical decisions more quickly, particularly in an emergency situation.

ArcGIS Image Server Delivers Imagery Quickly to Customers
For organizations such as the U.S. Forest Service and the natural gas delivery company CenterPoint Energy, ESRI's ArcGIS Image Server solved a once-constant challenge: the processing and delivery of large amounts of imagery to many users in a timely manner. By using ArcGIS Image Server, government agencies and commercial businesses can process, manage, and deliver imagery faster than ever before. The software provides quick access to and visualization of large quantities of imagery, processed on the fly and on demand.

ESRI's ArcPad 7.1 Mobile GIS Software Now Available
ArcPad 7.1 and ArcPad Application Builder 7.1, the latest versions of ESRI's mobile GIS software for data collection and field mapping applications, have been released. The new enhancements in ArcPad 7.1 will help experienced users, as well as field personnel new to GIS, capture field data quickly and easily.

New ESRI Licensing Program Facilitates Broad Use of GIS by Small Municipalities and Counties
ESRI now offers a Small Municipal and County Government Enterprise License Agreement (ELA) Program that allows unlimited deployments of ESRI ArcGIS software to municipalities and counties in the United States. The program provides access to the GIS technology small governments need with a straightforward, tiered pricing schedule.

ESRI Expands Regional Presence with Launch of ESRI Asia
ESRI continues to expand its international operations with the opening of ESRI Asia. The new office will allow ESRI to better support its regional distributors, partners, and customers. Bill Shepherd, the new director of ESRI Asia, has spent much of his 15-year career with ESRI working throughout the region. Says Shepherd, "We view Asia as a region with tremendous growth potential, particularly for emerging technologies such as Web-based GIS. Our goal in establishing ESRI Asia is to continue to expand the strong support of our distributors in the region and to build strategic alliances with the regional offices of our business partners such as Microsoft, SAP, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, and SAS."

Regional Leaders and GIS Professionals Find Geospatial Solutions at ESRI Middle East & North Africa User Conference
Taking place for the first time in the Sultanate of Oman, the ESRI Middle East & North Africa User Conference (MEAUC), held October 29-31, 2007, provided a collaborative forum for both new and advanced users of geospatial technology. Jack Dangermond, ESRI president, and high-level delegates from Oman, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, the Kingdom of Bahrain, and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia attested to the value of GIS technology before regional leaders and professionals.

ESRI's New Director of Product Management to Expand Enterprise GIS Strategies
Dirk Gorter, formerly of Symantec Corporation, has joined ESRI's senior corporate management team in the newly created position of director of product management. His charter is to implement new processes that will help ESRI create innovative GIS software products that integrate into the wider business IT solution.

IRS Uses GIS to Select and Analyze Office Locations
To better manage its facilities, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) developed a GIS-based Post of Duty Location Model (PODLM) application that lets the agency analyze current office locations and evaluate proposed sites.

Siemens-ESRI Team Wins Contract for NATO's Core Geographic Services
The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) has awarded its Core Geographic Services contract to the Siemens Enterprise Communications (SEN)-ESRI team, which will spearhead a project that will shape the application of geospatial technology in defense for years to come. The services, technology, and software the contract provides will ensure that all NATO staff, from the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) to NATO's deployable headquarters (HQ), will have the best available geospatial information at all times.

In the Middle of a Firestorm - Literally...The Southern California Fires, and Support from ESRI
Directions Magazine, November 1, 2007-Joe Francica, editor-in-chief and vice publisher, Directions Magazine, writes about the role ESRI's GIS technology played in supporting firefighting efforts such as informing citizens, routing emergency vehicles, determining shelter locations, and deploying resources.
