Extends Infrastructure Management at IBM Pulse 2009
At IBM's recent Pulse conference, attendees had the opportunity to learn how ArcGIS
Server with IBM
Maximo Spatial delivers a single, scalable solution for asset and
facilities management (FM). A paper, Location,
Location, Location - Improve Asset Management by Taking GIS inside the
Building [PDF], was presented,
addressing the importance of location in an asset management context, how
traditional enterprise asset management (EAM) systems can scale to include FM
capability, and the reasons why spatially enabled asset management is an
especially critical business function in a down economy.

at SAS Global Forum 2009
Attendees of the recent SAS Global Forum in Washington, D.C., were able to
see how SAS has used the ESRI ArcGIS
API for Flex to create rich Internet applications that extend the
analytic capabilities of the SAS business intelligence (BI) and enterprise BI
servers. SAS users were also able to see the SAS Bridge for ESRI displaying
SAS data in ArcGIS Desktop applications where spatial analytics could be
applied to the data for new and valuable insight.

at IBM Impact 2009
ESRI will be at IBM Impact 2009, to be held May 3 - 8 in Las Vegas, Nevada,
to showcase ESRI and IBM's technology integration with WebSphere and
geospatially enabled service-oriented architecture (SOA). This event will be
specifically geared to SOA professionals and will include three designated
Smart SOA tracks: Aligning IT and Business, Business, and Technology. Schedule

ESRI will be at IBM Cognos Forum, to be held May 12 - 15, 2009, in Orlando,

Business Analyst Server 9.3 Speeds Business Intelligence
ESRI's release of ArcGIS
Business Analyst Server 9.3 brings an enterprise solution for
collaborative business geographics to the marketplace. With this recent
release, ArcGIS Business Analyst Server has been expanded by adding more
reports, data, and flexibility to the application while reducing its resource
consumption.

8 Now Shipping
ArcPad
8 includes new capabilities, performance improvements, and quality
enhancements. ArcPad Application Builder, the development framework to
customize ArcPad, is now included with every ArcPad 8 license. ArcPad is
now a maintenance-based product, and customers may subscribe to annual
maintenance to get ArcPad updates and technical support. ArcPad
evaluation software is available for download at no cost.

API for Microsoft Silverlight Now Available as a Beta Product
ArcGIS
API for Microsoft Silverlight enables you to integrate ArcGIS Server
and Microsoft Virtual Earth services and capabilities in a Silverlight
application. You can create interactive and expressive Web applications
leveraging ArcGIS Server and Virtual Earth resources - such as maps,
locators, and geoprocessing modelsand Silverlight components such as grids,
tree views, and charts. Interactive
samples are available.

Geocoding, Routing, and High-Quality Cartographic Display to ArcGIS with
ESRI's StreetMap Premium
The new version of ESRI's StreetMap Premiuman enhanced street dataset that
works with ESRI's ArcGIS software to provide geocoding, routing, and
high-quality map display - includes expanded coverage and more licensing
options. The enhanced dataset now gives users of ArcGIS Server and ArcGIS
Desktop access to street data for the United States, Canada, and Europe that
is tailored to their specific needs and geographic regions. The ready-to-use
datasets, based on data from NAVTEQ, include streets and road networks as
well as basemap data.

Server Accessible via BlackBerry
Freeance Mobile Basic Edition allows organizations to use live GIS maps and
custom GPS data collection forms on their BlackBerry smartphones for less
than $1,000 and unlimited use. Freeance Mobile Basic is a no-programming,
plug-and-play application that allows organizations to quickly connect to
their ESRI maps and enterprise databases and create custom mapping and GPS
data collection forms for use on BlackBerry smartphones. The application runs
with ArcGIS Server Standard software and will run in the organizations that
have deployed BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES) as well as smaller
organizations operating without BES.

Uses GIS to Map Recovery Dollars
Maryland governor Martin O'Malley recently launched a Web site powered with
ESRI technology that uses GIS analysis and maps to show American Recovery
and Reinvestment Act milestones. Recovery.maryland.gov indicates where and how the funds from the stimulus package will be spent, including
early purchases of buses for mass transit, resurfacing projects for roadways,
and education funding.

Water Gauge: Using GIS to Measure Sustainable Water Use
The Center
for Sustainable Innovation, based in Thetford Center, Vermont, is a
nonprofit that tackles research, development, training, and consulting for
and with companies around the world interested in managing and improving the
sustainability of their operations. In January 2009, the company announced
Corporate Water Gauge, a solution for measuring and reporting water use in
the context of sustainability. Executive Director Mark W. McElroy, Ph.D.,
answered our questions about the offering and how ESRI GIS technology and
data are involved, as well as how you can calculate measurements related to
sustainability.
