ESRI to Share Insight on the Power of Geography at Global Spatial Data Infrastructure Conference

Chief Scientist Will Discuss "Where Next for SDI?"

Redlands, California—ESRI invites professionals across disciplines to get informed and exchange views on geospatial technology by attending the tenth Global Spatial Data Infrastructure (GSDI-10) conference, to be held February 25–29, 2008, in St. Augustine, Trinidad, at the University of the West Indies. As a founding member of the GSDI Association and the leading developer of geographic information system (GIS) technology, ESRI encourages practitioners using geospatial technologies to participate in this event dedicated to advancing the spatial data infrastructure and addressing important needs worldwide.

During the conference, ESRI staff will be participating in and chairing several of the committee meetings as well as hosting a hands-on workshop, presenting papers, and providing a booth for attendees to find out more about GIS software and tools to support efficient spatial data infrastructure (SDI) implementation. Attendees will also be able to join round table discussions, such as the national mapping agency round table, and participate in sessions focusing on technical, legal, and socioeconomic topics. ESRI chief scientist Dr. David Maguire will speak during Tuesday's Plenary Session, discussing "Where Next for SDI?"

"Spatial data infrastructures have come a long way in the last decade, but the best years are still ahead of us," says Maguire. "New advances in distributed GIS technology are providing new opportunities to share geographic information and create communities. Advances in spatial data management, server-centric computing, and Web-based dissemination are especially important. These are enabling a whole new generation of users to harness the power of geography for the first time."

From corporate visions for SDI to small island perspectives on global challenges, GSDI-10 conference topics and insights will provide attendees with essential knowledge and ideas for furthering their work and solving problems in areas such as
