Allocation of Primary Care Physicians

Twenty-three counties in Texas have no physician. Twenty-two of these counties rank in the bottom 12.6 percent in population. There are 51,649 Texans without a primary care physician in their home county.

Distribution of Care

The overall objective of this project was to assess the health care needs of the elderly in rural west Texas. The work included the assembly of information resources about west Texas to compare with the rest of the state, construction of predictive models for health resources needed by communities, and development of an Atlas of Rural and Community Health that highlights the land, people, and economy of west Texas.
