GIS plays an integral part in the planning and successful implementation of any development. The Timucuan development of regional impact (DRI), a 10,000-acre area in northern Jacksonville, Florida, proposes a mixed land use that encompasses more than 10,000 residential units, 800,000 square feet of commercial and retail space, 200,000 square feet of office space, and 400 hotel rooms.

Volume 22: GIS—The Geographic Approach

3D Population Distribution in the Bay Area in 20003D Population Distribution in the Bay Area in 2000
This map depicts a multidimensional surface derived from population density distribution within the nine-county San Francisco Bay Area. A hillshade grid was layered beneath the grid depicting population density from which it was derived.

Volume 21: GIS—Communicating Our World

world population 2015

Global Population Density Estimates for 2015
Global population density maps exist up to the year 2005, but there is no map depicting the projected situation in 2015, which is the target date of Millennium Development Goals and the World Food Summit. This is the first such map for 2015. It was made based on the data from more than 375,000 administrative units. Population is projected to the year 2015 using simple extrapolation methods.

Volume 20: GIS—Helping Manage Our World

Africa

Northern Goshawk Models
The Northern Goshawk Nesting Suitability model was developed to support a resource management plan. The variables used to develop the model were height class, canopy closure, tree species, and edges.

Volume 19: GIS—The Language of Geography

Africa

Development Through Knowledge
Development Through Knowledge reflects the motto of the Africa Institute of South Africa (AISA), and these maps are a representation of some of the data that AISA publishes in its statistical volume, Africa at a Glance.

Map Book Gallery

The Map Book Gallery features the ESRI Map Book series dedicated to acknowledging the important and innovative accomplishments of GIS users around the world.

Published annually, each volume of the ESRI Map Book showcases a small portion of the work presented at the Map Gallery Exhibition at the annual ESRI International User Conference.
