License OptionsESRI offers a variety of licensing options to meet the needs of educational institutions of any size. All licensing options are for academic or research use. Commercial use is prohibited.
For more information about ESRI Software, contact your local ESRI Office or the ESRI Education Program. SupportNew and existing users can take advantage of technical support and software updates through the Maintenance Program [PDF-61.3 KB]. The program makes it easier to budget for support and software updates by combining both services into a single, annual fee.
Individual LicensesIndividual Licenses are available to students, instructors, faculty, and other educators for academic or research use. These licenses are held by an individual person rather than the educational institution and do not carry a time limit. Students can obtain a separate one-year license. Purchases are limited to one copy of any given software product/release per individual. Software products available for Student/Educational Individual Licenses

LAB KIT LicensesLAB KIT Licenses are designed for research and administrative use and are available to accredited educational institutions providing instruction for primary education through university, libraries, museums, and non-profit educational research institutes. LAB KIT Licenses provide multiple copies of ESRI software for use in a computer lab/classroom or in a single department. The initial license includes media and documentation and is called the LAB KIT Master License. Additional licenses of the same software and version may be purchased and added to the LAB KIT. Campuswide Site LicensesCampuswide Site Licenses are designed for organizations where GIS is required by multiple departments, college or university campuses, and university systems. Site licenses provide an alternative to establishing multiple LAB KITs in individual departments. A site license can cover a single campus, multiple campuses, a school district (system), or statewide system. A site license allows an institution to use ESRI software throughout the organization for teaching, research, or administrative purposes for a single annual fee. This fee includes software maintenance, access to virtual campus courses authored by ESRI, user conference passes and technical support services. All site licenses require a signed contract. Please contact Ann Johnson, ESRI Higher Education Program Manager, at ajohnson@esri.com for details. Site License Tiers – Basic, Intermediate and UnlimitedThere are three tiers for Site Licenses: (1) Basic, (2) Intermediate, and (3) Unlimited. Each Site License tier includes a common set of Deliverables (see Site License Deliverables listed below) and increases the number of ArcGIS ArcInfo licenses, user conference passes and tech support contacts. For each tier, the benefits include: Basic Site License Benefits
Intermediate Site License Benefits
Unlimited Site License Benefits

Visit the Products Overview section for detailed descriptions of the software products listed above. For more information on ESRI's education programs, please contact us at highered@esri.com. Third-Party SoftwareSome ESRI software includes third-party software or data that cannot be made part of the Site License program. Examples of software that contains third-party components include ArcGIS Business Analyst, Business Analyst Online, ArcGIS Data Interoperability, and ArcGIS Survey Analyst. In the case of ArcGIS Data Interoperability, and ArcGIS Survey Analyst, ESRI has been able to negotiate a tiered fee per year (per version) to these extensions for educational site licenses. For specific pricing information, please contact your local ESRI Account Representative or the ESRI Higher Education team. Once a purchase order has been received by ESRI, the customer service representative will request that a contract amendment be added to the site license. A signed contract amendment is required before keycodes can be issued for these third-party products. |
