GIS Educator Article Submission Guidelines

Article Submission Deadline: May 1, 2008

What Is GIS Educator?

GIS Educator is a newsletter for educational professionals and administrators interested in GIS with a distribution of more than 10,000.

It is produced by the ESRI higher education team. We welcome feature articles from faculty, staff, administrators, or others interested in GIS for education. Articles submitted by an ESRI business partner will be credited to the business partner. Articles in this widely circulated newsletter are an excellent promotional vehicle for your GIS education program. When submitting an article, please provide the following contact information:

  • Organization (school, college, university, library, museum, etc.)
  • Contact name and title
  • Phone number
  • E-mail address
  • Web site address (department and institution, if available)

Article Topics

We are looking for articles on a wide variety of topics. No institution or application is too small. We ask that you include information on your institution and its use of GIS in general and, if applicable, describe the issue GIS helped solve or the way it helped in the educational process.

Article Guidelines

  1. Articles should be approximately 600–800 words in length and written in the third person.
  2. If possible, please include photographs (print or transparency) that illustrate some aspect of the article. Please do not send photographs you have scanned or digital camera photographs. We will gladly return photographs and transparencies to you after publication upon request.
  3. Screen captures showing applications at work are a plus. Information on creating screen shots suitable for publication. Provide images in .TIF, .JPG, or .BMP format. Do not send images that have been saved in Microsoft Office documents such as Word, PowerPoint, or Excel. Do not send .GIF images.

  4. Please secure written permission in advance from any necessary person or agency mentioned in the article.

Forward all articles electronically to ajohnson@esri.com and amasangcay@esri.com. Files containing screen captures can be attached to this e-mail. Send photographs separately with a copy of the submitted article to
