GIS for Insurance

Regulatory Compliance

The regulatory environment for insurers in incredibly complex and geographically determined. Regulations within the U.S. differ from state to state and require that insurers comply with 51 different sets of rules (including Washington, D.C.) Multinational insurers must also comply with differing regulations around the world.

GIS is necessary to understand which location requires compliance with which regulations, and to understand how to respond to policyholders according to the appropriate rules. Without the geographic analysis capabilities of GIS, regulatory compliance becomes almost unmanageable and certainly much more costly for insurers.
