GIS for Environmental Management

GIS for Data Capture

By definition, environmental studies are conducted in the field where data is retrieved in a variety of ways. GPS receivers have greatly facilitated the collection of location-based data, which can then be managed and analyzed using a GIS.

The data collection stage of environmental work is improved by using ESRI solutions that write data directly to a GIS at the time of collection. Two software solutions are available: ArcPad, running on a handheld device; and an ArcGIS Desktop license, such as ArcView, running on a Tablet PC. Both applications are fully compatible with GPS and imagery, so navigating, collecting data, and reporting results can be accomplished while in the field.
