Modeling and simulation (M&S) is the science and art of creating realistic virtual battlespace scenarios to rehearse operations, command and control scenarios, and other simulated events. The M&S software integrates simulated responses and sensors with the actions and reactions from the scenario participants. Geospatial capability provides a core technology that fuses large amounts of battlespace data into a single common operational picture for the M&S software. Three Dimensional geospatial visualization and close integration between GIS and M&S software make up a quickly evolving technology that permits defense organizations to train using actual geographically correct terrain.
