ArcPad Template and Tools
The agriculture template consists of a toolbar that contains the following customized tools built to assist the operator in the field.
- Grid SamplingThis is used to create a grid that can act as a guide for sampling. A user selects a field boundary, activates the tool, and a form appears on which the sampling parameters are input. The resultant sampling grid is output as a shapefile. Once samples have been collected, the grid colors change indicating that a sample has been recorded, allowing revisits to fields over time. The data fields to be created in the grid sample shapefile can be customized by the user in advance to ensure that required fields are present.
- Statistics ToolThis tool calculates basic statistics for a numeric attribute field and allows the user to quickly zoom to and identify minimum and maximum values to detect outliers. The user can choose the shapefile layer and numeric field from combo boxes.
- Make Editable ToolThe user sets which point, line, and polygon layers can be edited without having to go through the layer dialog, thereby simplifying the process of data creation in the field.
- Built-In ToolsThis tool provides field-workers with immediate access to tools that already exist in ArcPad but might be previously accessible through multiple pulldown menus. The first is the freehand measure tool that allows a user to trace a line to calculate distances and areas. The second is the "go to" tool that allows a user to navigate to a defined point within a field using GPS.
