The Society for Conservation GIS and ESRI Conservation Program

ESRI's Conservation Program (ECP) is a 19–year–old program that conducts grant-making and community-building activities in Conservation GIS around the world. In 2007 we formally joined with Spot Image to become co-founders of their "Planet Action" climate change grants program which has already distributed tens of thousands of dollars in imagery and GIS technology to local groups worldwide who are fighting climate change impacts. Spot Image is the co-sponsor of our first ever "Climate Change GIS" program, in Room 32A all week, including the launch of our first Climate Change GIS user group on Wednesday at noon. We also sponsor the Native and First Nations program and the Parks program, in addition to our core Ecology track on Thursday in Room 32B.

Come to Ballroom 20D to find out more about our many programs and current partner projects including The Nature Conservancy, Conservation International, World Wildlife Fund, Orangutan Foundation International, Jane Goodall Foundation, Trust for Public Land, California Academy of Sciences, and many more. There will be updated information about our partnership with the UNEP World Conservation Monitoring Centre to update and improve the World Database of Protected Areas. We are also helping to create a new US national inventory of open lands with the GreenInfo Network, the Conservation Biology Institute, and USGS. You can also find out about our 2008 Special Achievement Honorees, including the Aboriginal Mapping Network, Wilderness Society Center for Landscape Analysis, Save-the-Redwoods League, Cornell Ornithology Lab Ebird Program, and Earthjustice.

As in past years, The Society for Conservation GIS (SCGIS) will have a full program of presentations from our 2008 scholarship honorees, and you can catch up on the great work of the many international chapters of the Society, as well as show your support by joining or renewing your membership and coming to the open meeting for SCGIS on Wednesday in Room 32B.

Be sure to come by Ballroom 20D next to the Map Gallery for our grand opening Monday night, meet all our exhibitors, and pick up last-minute program changes.
